Maria Sharapova qualified for the third round of Wimbledon after reaching an edgy win against the borrowing 123rd position in the rankings Dutch Richel Hogenkamp. In different parts, the champion of 2004 won with 6:3, 6:1 in an hour.
The two contestants exchanged one break in the first set, but after the second one Sharapova took the lead and managed to close the part with 6:3. In the second set, Sharapova quickly led with 4:0 and with that comfortable lead, she was unbreakable until the end.
In the third round Sharapova will play against Irina-Camelia Begu, who beat Lesia Tsurenko with 5:7, 7(7):6(4), 5:7.
The other player which qualified for the third round until now are Samantha Stosur, Madison Keys, Zarina Diyas, Elizaveta Kulichkova and Coco Vandeweghe.
Belinda Bencic leads with 1:0 sets against Anna-Lena Friedsam and Heather Watson took the first set against Daniela Hantuchova.
