Gica Popescu became an adviser to the Romanian Prime Minister

The famous Romanian footballer Gica Popescu became advisor to the Romanian prime minister, local media reported.

George (Gika) Popescu is a former defender and captain of Barcelona, played in PSV Eindhoven, Tottenham and Galatasaray. He has over 100 matches for Romania`s national team. Romanian Prime Minister Mihai Tudose announced last night that Gica Popescu has become his advisor and will be in charge of coordinating the organization of matches in Romania from the European Football Championship in 2020. The Prime Minister said he had made this decision for fear that Romania would be laughing and could not organize the household well.

`We did not do anything, we needed four stadiums, we risk being laughed because we can not handle it and because we do not understand football, then I said we should find some good project manager, Gica Popescu told us yes and is my new adviser! `said Mihai Tudose to Antena 3 TV.

Gica Popescu was released from prison in November 2015. In March 2014 he and seven other Romanian football executives were sentenced toprison for tax evasion and money laundering in connection with illegal transfers of 12 players in perito 1999/2005 year. Since leaving prison, Gica Popescu has not played an active role in football but at the end of last year he said he was preparing his return. Bucharest will host at the Arena Nation stadium four matches from the European Football Championship in 2020 (three in the group stage and one in the second round). If Romania qualifies for the championship, it will be able to play two games on its own stage of the group stage. Besides Bucharest, round-the-clock and group games will be played in the cities of Copenhagen, Amsterdam, Dublin, Bilbao, Budapest, Brussels and Glasgow. Three games according dropping odds in the groups and one of the quarterfina ls will be in Munich, Baku, St. Petersburg and Rome. The semi-finals and the final will be played at Wembley Stadium in London. The 13th host country will not qualify directly, but will go through qualifications.
